What is TBRI?
Transform your caregiving approach with our Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) training. TBRI® is an intervention designed for families and professionals working with children from hard places. TBRI® has been effective in numerous settings from families, to schools, to juvenile correction facilities, and Child protective service programs, and with those in prison. TBRI® hinges on the foundation of connection above all, beginning with empowering a child by meeting their needs, correcting behaviors with the IDEAL Response, all the while maintaining close connection. Children who have experienced trauma need caregivers and professionals who are able to provide nurturing care with a trauma and attachment-informed lense.
Below is a brief video outlining the very basics of TBRI®. We highly recommend TBRI® training for all professionals who work with children who have experienced trauma, families who are planning to adopt a child or have already adopted a child, and anyone who is willing to commit to Dr. Karyn Purvis’ dream of “a world where the cry of every child is met by a loving compassionate adult”.

24 Hours of Training: How is it split up? What to expect?
This comprehensive 24-hour caregiver training is divided into four engaging modules, each consisting of two parts lasting six hours.
Note: The Intro and Overview module is required prior to other modules.
Module 1, Intro and Overview, you will get a crash course in TBRI®, learning more about what it is, and giving a general intro into the three principles of TBRI®, empowerment, connection, and correction. This module is required before attending the other three modules.
Module 2 dives into the TBRI® empowering principles, highlighting the different ways to empower children in your care. This module explores meeting physiological needs, sensory needs, and ecological needs (transitions, scaffolding, rituals) to help aid regulation.
, Module 3 highlights the most significant facet of TBRI® , the principles of connection. This section covers the science of attachment, engagement strategies, and mindful practices for connection.
Finally, Module 4 discusses the principles of correction, focusing on the balance between structure and nurture, introducing the IDEAL Response and Levels of Response, and providing ample practice and examples of corrective strategies.
All four modules provide time for personal and group reflection, ample opportunities to practice applying the knowledge learned, and the ability to ask your trainer, Lauren, any specific questions related to your own experiences.
Note:
We strongly recommend taking the modules in order as they build off one another, but if your schedule doesn’t allow, you can take modules 2-4 out of order.
1 module will be completed each month, giving families and professionals time to practice the techniques learned, give time for processing and reflection, and allowing the material to sink in.
After each module is completed, you will receive a certificate with the educational hours listed and this could be used towards educational requirements for professionals and foster/adoptive families. At the end of the 4 modules, you will receive a certificate showing the completion of the entire training.
